    SS disc half

A friend advised that he obtained this item (only photo that I have) from a GI who used a metal detector and dug for relics while stationed in Germany during the 1980's. This item was reportedly located during that time frame. I have no knowledge in collecting and authenticating ID discs; SS items especially make me nervous. Please critique and advise of originality. Thanks.

    Hello

    1.)
This dogtag isn`t a ground dug ! (or it was only a few days under the earth... )

    2.)
This dogtag is a peace of crap and have no common points with an original tag.

It is a very well known fake. (From a very well known fake series.)

    Sorry for bad answer.

    Best regards, Fronti

I appreciate the information. I suspected this item was possibly fake, and I'm sure my friend won't be happy about the outcome. Unfortunately, that is a pitfall in collecting SS items. Thanks again.

SS Heimwehr Danzig = Location Danzig / Gdansk = former part of great germany = Part of Poland in the 1980`s.

I am not sure, but I think the President of the United States (Ronald Reagan in that time frame) wasn`t enthused about the information, that a US soldier duged out things during the cold war in the eastern zone. (Poland)

If he did so, we could be happy that this wouldn`t be the reason for a third worldwar.

I agree with your geography lesson.

Is this a fantasy item, or did any wartime ID disc exist with SS-Heimwehr stamped on it?
