Hello Gentlemen,
I thought I would share with you a very rare grouping I have which belonged to Alfred Berbrich, who was one of the very first soldiers serving with Grossdeutschland and through the last days of the war. He started with the Berlin Wachcompanie. It is interesting to note that Berbrich was one of the Standard Bearers for GD! The grouping includes prewar award documents, wehrpass, soldbuch, dogtag, military drivers license and over 100 loose photographs. The drivers license photo shows Berbrich in his M36 tunic wearing the gray shoulder slides used in the initial stages of the 1940 French Campaign and the Infantry Standard Bearers insignia! Berbrich was a member of the panzerabwehr companie, which so distinguished itself in the 1940 French Campaign with its commander and leading NCO both receiving the Knights Cross. Berbrich received the EK2 for this battle. Berbrich received the EK1 while fighting in Russia, and the specific efforts for this award are detailed in Spaeter's series on the history of Grossdeutschland. It is my belief that Berbrich's wartime award documents are in another collection, but I have been unable to track them down. I have had this grouping for many years, and will most likely be offering it on the e-stand in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy the photos and if there are any specific addition photos you may like to see, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you and best wishes,
Curtiss
