    Identity Disc Question

Okay- who wants to play 'Spot the Fundamental Flaw' with this little gem:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...280589769&rd=1

There are a few of them, but the most basic one is the one I'm looking for- it's a perfect example for any 'would-be' identity disc buyers...

Chris and Gaspare are quite welcome to play, but I would hope they'll let some others have a chance before they buzz in with the answer

Obviously there was no Pz Abt 65 in the SS. Not nearly that many SS Abt/Battalions.

Right on Jim! No SS-Panzer-Abteilung 65; there was a Panzer-Abteilung 65 in the Heer, but since this disc is specifically marked SS, that ain't it

So, we can now use the letter type of this disc as a way to identify other fakes, i.e., if you find another with the exact same letters, it too is a fake.

Even when not marked with ss runes, a very bad fake !!!!

This is a infamous seller of bad tags. They used to sell out of St.Pete Russia but a couple of years ago they seemed to have moved on to Canada.

They used to use another style of letter stamps that was very easy to identify as a 'rokas' fake also. This set of stamps is a little on the generic side. Best is to make a photo file of the full set of letters for study. Keep watching this seller and getting photos and you'll soon have the whole alphabet , G.

Nice find Matt. I would have dismissed it on ebay because of the seller right away though, never looking at it much closer.

Oh, I ususally do too Chris, but I think it's always useful to find concrete reasons why something is a fake, and thereby make it useful to recognize others. Something that just doesn't look 'right' isn't really all that much use, but one like this is excellent; now if we see one with the same letters or the same false 'age', we can point to this one as proof it's a fake.
