Wehrpass Oblnt Gerrit König IR 423 / 212. ID

A very nice Wehrpass set to Oberleutnant der Reserve Gerrit König.

König was born in Berlin in 1922. He is a quite young looking teenager as his Wehrpass Foto was talen.

König was certainly am Abiturienten, who made it to the 8th class. According to the Wehrpass entries, he spoke English and French along with Spanish.

Young ROB König began his front line military career with the Infanterie Regiment 423 by the very Bavarian 212. Infanterie Division. Ein Berliner in Bayern!

The 212. ID took part in most of the heavy fighting on the Wolchow-Front in northern Russia., the defensive battle in front of Leningrad and Oranienbaum and southg of Lake Ladoga.

He was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz on 3.8.1942, the Ostmedaille on 19.4.43 and the EIsernes Kreuz 2. Klasse on 15.1.1944.

König was wounded twice, the first time, bullets through both upper arms and then later more complicated schrapnel in the left eye and schrapnel in both right and left hands and feet!

The rest of the war he spend recuperating the various hospitals and continuing his medical studies. He eventually was posted to the A u E Batl 320 in Augsburg.

Along with a short fitness report stating the König is lacking "wordly experience" however is very disciplined.....

All previous fitness reports were destroyed by the enemy....

I still have some research here to do!

Just an addition: his father Maximilian König ( 1886-1951) was the German ambassador /envoy

              ("Gesandter") in Bolivia from 1932-1936.

                          Hello,

for anyone interested in this thread....here is something new and very surprising! I was about to place this Wehrpass up for sale and thought I could Research this man just one last time on the Internet since I never recevied a reply from the Bezirksamt in Berlin....

                          And I found this:

                          http://ghocksj.de/gerrit-koenig.html

                          P. Gerrit König SJ:
geboren am 19.9.1922 in Berlin, Priesterweihe 3.8.1952, Eintritt in die Gesellschaft Jesu 15.10.1957. Gestorben am 7.4.2014 in Berlin Kladow

This obituary included a short note about his father's Service as ambassador to Bolivia before the war and König's Military Service in some Detail. Perhaps more interesting is his post war career, following God's calling, becoming a priest and crossing the border between the two Germanys, eventually deciding to stay in East Germany. Eventually he was named the Regionalsuperior for East Germany in 1981!

As soon as I received this Wehrpass in late 2013 I started my search for Hr. König. Unfortunately, I was too late.

                          Erich

This adds a lot to the Wehrpaß.
