    Hello !

It is always interesting, if more detailed information on these late war battlegroups comes up.
The equipmentdescriptioon is wrong. They had only MG42 no MG34, and also 2 platoons of mortars 8cm.
They were also equipped with Panzerfaust and riflegrenades.
If you say the info in the scan is simply wrong, I would of course be interested which numbers you have
and which sources they are from.
Same question applies to the very detailed description of the circumstances of his death.

    Best regards,

    Archi

Can someone please provide a link to the specific part of the Volksbund website where soldier research can be conducted?

Very interesting thread. Thanks for posting.

        Thank you

This unit (6. ROB Lehrgang für Infanterie VII Lenggries) and its sacrifice shortly before the end of the war are very important to me.

For example, these young soldiers held out for almost a full week, surrounded by US troops, without water and food. Three quarters of the boys did not survive the war.

          Hello Archi,

I had the pleasure to interview former members of this unit.

In addition, this is also reported in the records of former soldiers of this unit.

I was able to receive reports or interviews from a total of 22 soldiers, who came from all the companies of the unit.

They only reported MG42, also on demand

They had also a "Schwere Waffen Kompanie" with 2 piece of "7,5cm leichtes Infanterie Geschütz 18 " and the two platoons of 8cm-mortar

I dont know, but since the guns and the mortars were also operated by the young people, they must have been trained there.

The document that you show has the status 26.3.1945, but the unit had its first enemy contact at the end of March, maybe there have been changes in these 4-5 days, who knows?

And I think it's a target refund that may never have materialized.

Besides, there never was this strength of 1592 men, there were not 1000 men thrown into battle.
          ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
          EDIT:
          Whythat ?
because there were only 7 companies, to a maximum of 150 men, mostly less.

I think if there were almost 1600 men in the beginning, then a part was sent at somewhere else, but not at the Tauber river.
          -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as I know, heavy machine guns did not exist there. Possibly. the weapons were delivered elsewhere.

          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I have a small handwritten booklet, from the forest ranger.
He also noted down all the names of the dead and their place of death, as well as wounding and special circumstances
          ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          greetings Hans

                  Hello HanSSturm !

Many thanks for taking the time for your very detailed reply !
This is very interesting (and also very important!) for me.

Just a short info, why :
Normally, for many of those units, activated from the Ersatzheer during "Aktion Leuthen", the type of
info I posted, is the last info available at all. Due to the circumstances, almost no infos on strength,
weapons etc., even the places where they were committed after ~25. March 45, are hard to find.
Therefore it is very important, to find some reliable information, how those infos in the official records,
compare with what the units had actually at hand, when they arrived at the front.
From what you wrote, your research is very thorough and very reliable ! (This is not always clear,
sometimes those statements are based on just one eyewitness, one book or one other source.)

Regarding the differences in weapons and strength :
I think, there is no problem in understanding the addition of a few weapons like Gr.W. (8cm) or even le.Inf.Gesch.(7,5cm).
When the ROB Lehrgang arrived at the front, it came under control of the remnants of the totally destroyed 212. VGD.
It is very likely, that it received some additional heavy weapons at that time.
It is also very likely, that the whole ROB-Lehrgang was reorganized from a training course of "6 or 7 Inspektionen"
into a combat unit of regimental strength with 2 btls. (of 3 companies) and an additional heavy weapons company,
and that some other men were transferred to reinforce other units.
A bit surprising for me, is that there are no mentionings of MG 34, however, with the large number of interviews you made,
it seems that they were not present (replaced and/or sent elsewhere ?!).

Thanks for sharing this kind of rare info and best regards,

                  Archi

                      Hello,

In my research on the company of the fallen soldier shown here, I have so far been able to determine several hundred names and dates of the fallen.

Unfortunately, during my research I also came across reports of soldiers and civilians, which point to a possible war crime. It is reported in various sources that they had seen in a small clearing in the forest near Königshofen about 20 dead soldiers, who were evidently executed by shots in the back of the head.

A few days later, the bodies of the executed people had disappeared - they were taken by US troops to Bensheim on a military cemetery. The bodies of the other fallen in the forest - after all, there were almost 100 dead, have not been recovered by US forces . These were salvaged by civilians.

Most of the dead brought to Bensheim could not be identified...

Unfortunately, shootings of German soldiers were not uncommon when they were captured. Especially when the US troops had their own casualties, the captured soldiers were often shot or slayed...
