Rare Soldbuch with Infantry Assault Badge & General Assault Badge entry

Hello. I'd like to show a very interesting Soldbuch of a brave soldier who earned first the Infantry Assault Badge and later the General Assault Badge.
I've never seen another one before but I'm wondering if he was allowed to wear both medals!?

It also seems that he fought quite some time with "SS Regiment Langemarck/ SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Das Reich" according to some SS entries in his Soldbuch.

Perhaps there are other ones out there?

I've got a Soldbuch to a panzer soldier who was awarded the Panzerkampfabzeichen in Bronze in 1941, and the Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber in 1943. Here's the link:

I too am wondering if such soldiers were allowed to wear both medals.

While they're certainly not common, I wouldn't necessarily use the word "rare" when referring to a Soldbuch with multiple combat award entries. Of the 100 or so Soldbücher I currently have in my collection there are at least 5 or 6 with a IAB and GAB, GAB and PAB or a PAB and IAB, and I've sold off a few others I used to own... So, roughly 10% out of 100 I have/have owned have had some sort of combination of combat award entries. That's just my experience though. I'm still looking for an example with all three (IAB, GAB and PAB) listed.... Well, I do have one but the GAB was crossed out and changed to a PAB (the IAB was added later) so I don't know if he did in fact receive all three, or if the GAB was entered by mistake and corrected to a PAB. Anyway.....

Jason - That looks like a very nice Soldbuch

      Best,
      Rob

I always have a bad feeling when you write a posting in one of my threads because you almost always have to critisize something.

I've been collecting Soldbücher and Wehrpässe for almost 15 years and have approx. 180 of them in my collection.
I also read at least 5 threads regarding SBs and WPs at the WAF and MFF per day.

I do remember a handful IDs with PAB Bronce & PAB Silver but I've never seen a IAB & GAB SB before (what doesn't mean that they don't exist).

That makes this Soldbuch kind of rare from my point of view.

And your 10% theory for IDs with multiple combat award entries stands on very shaky ground IMO.

Btw., it would be nice to see the award pages of your 5 or 6 IAB & GAB Soldbücher as well as IDs from other collectors with IAB & GAB entries.

        Regards

I would consider this combination rare. I have quite a few examples of GAB being awarded then guys getting the PAB simply as I collect 1 Kavallerie/24 Pz. Division.

Generally in 1 Kav.Div. they served in Reiter Rgt. and as such if applicable were awarded GAB, when the unit was reformed as 24 Pz.Div. they later won awards in their current roll and again generally it was the PAB.

Here's an example of the GAB being awarded with 1 Kav.Div. with the guy later being awarded the IAB in a Kampfgruppe fighting outside of Stalingrad! He later transferred to 29 Pz.Gren.Div. in Italy.

I must admit, no idea how many combinations like this I have.....I know I have a few combinations for Aircrew and Kriegsmarine when they changed rolls and served aboard different ships so having multiple combat awards.

          /Ian

As you can see, he wears the IAB in the photo.

Thank you very much for your examplification, Ian.
And it's not just the Soldbuch but the corresponding award documents as well!

                Regards, Matthias

I have a group to a KC winner who was awarded the IABiS during the Cholm pocket and the GAB after it, so they are rare but not so, you can find some combination like this from time to time.

                  Angel
Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

I know there is a regulation dealing with the wearing of two assault badges, so will have to do some digging.

                        two badges

I have a photo of a friend who earned a GAB and later a PAB wearing them both on a black wrapper. He was with Pz. Lehr Regt. getting the GAB in Russia and the PAB in the west. The photo is framed with other items so I cannot show it.

                          soldbuch

Copy of the regulation from the Heeresverordnungsblatt 1941A #449. This was an addition to #211 which covered all the Sturmabzeichen. It states a soldier good only have one Sturmabz. Guess like many other regulations, it wasn't always followed. Next to that is an attachment for #211 giving a quick reference for all the Sturmabz.

Possibly the GAB is covered by his sleeve, the two awards look squeezed in on his pocket. I am not sure if it's the picture or maybe a corner of the award is showing.

Doesn't appear to be anything there
