    (panzer?) mechanic Soldbuch

Resently i bought a soldbuch grouping (including his WFS and EKM) to a kraftfahrer/mechanic in the Werkstatt-Kompanie 58, part of the 7. Panzer-Division.

On 1-9-1944 he was assigned the function of "Handwerker".
His rank was Obergefreiter. (see attached picture).

My question is: does anyone know more about the Handwerker function?
I've read that with that function he was allowed to wear the mechanic trade-badge (see second attached picture as example, copyright to Fred Green).

Second question: was this function and/or trade-badge only for panzer mechanics or also normal vehicle mechanics?

    (Scroll down to Handwerker).

A Kfz Mechaniker or Wart works on motor vehicles - were the Handwerker maintains (builds) wagons, trailers and vehicle fixtures.

        Thanks! That helps

If i look at the following page: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...ndr.Abzch..htm
I see that someone with the Handwerker function was allowed to wear a trade-badge with the following discription: "Rosa Zahnrad auf feldgrauem, runden Untergrund, mit silbergrauer Litze eingefasst".

Is that the lower trade-badge in the picture of my first post?

          Yes

The rosa (pink) Waffenfarbe in this case is for all Kraftfahrtruppen not just Panzer!
