    Wehrpass "Bandenüberfall gefallen" in Italy

Here's a really interesting road warning alarm for Germans drivers against the partisans in the Italians Apennines, which I found my friend Federico near Parma - Reggio Emilia. The summer and autumn 1944, the mountains between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany were a hell for many Germans drivers ...
Frido Von Senger und Etterlin writes in his memoirs..... "we were not able to maintain control of these streets, the attacks were every day, and in the mountains it was very difficult to make contact with the bands because they moved continuously through the mountains"...........

and I have mentioned above the comment of Von Senger about the mountain roads in Italy in 1944 ......... Von Senger had his command and its headquarters near Passo dei Carpinelli, at Villa Collemandrina from the beginning of August 1944 to early October 1944.... the distance between Passo dei Carpinelli (where Otto was killed eight) and the HQ of Frifo von Senger is less than a dozen kilometers as the map below...

Interesting post - the sign & the book. Sad to believe that such an idyllic landscape could lead to death. But that's the nature of war...

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.
