Soldbuch Oberstleutent Schebek - Kroatien Ausb. Brigade

Just got this interesting Soldbuch to Oberstleutnant Otto Schebek of II / Infanterie Regiment 383 (kroatisch) of 373. ID.

Nice uniform foto of a WWI Austrian veteran with the Fotostudio stamp, A. Paulus, Elbogen. Can't quite make out all the awards, 2 or 3 Karl Truppenkreuze...and?

Schebek fought (staff function) as a Hauptmann with IR 499 /268. ID in Poland and France before being posted back to Germany to help with the formation of the 373. Infantrie Division (Kroatisch).

Schebek worked his way up the ranks from Hauptmann to finally Oberstleutnant 1.1.1945.

Schebek had the typical old age maladies, suche a Rheuma, muscle strains, urinary problems...

And normal equipment issues for officers.

Years of staff work and not even a KVK 2. Klasse awarded (at least not entered)!

            Hi!

It's not this easy to say, what his first 3 awards actually were without knowing something about his WWI-career!

            The first award could be:
            - Knights cross of Franz-Josef-order
            - Golden Franz-Josef cross of merit with swords
            - Military merit cross 3rd class with war decoration and swords

In one of the above mentioned cases the 2nd and 3rd awards would be the
            - Military merit medals in silver and bronze

Here is what I REALLY think:
As this man held the rank of a "Hauptmann" in WWII I think, he started the WWI as a "Fähnrich" and therefore got the following medals:

            First:
            - Military merit medal in bronze
            Second and third:
            - Bravery-medals in silver (Ist or 2nd class) or / and bronze

            4th place:
            - Kaiser-Karl-Truppenkreuz (Troop cross of emperor Karl I.)

The rest of the bar I cannot make out on my small laptop.

            Kind regards,

            Peter

              Servus Peter,

              Thank you for the input.

Here is a close up of the ribbon bar....if this helps.

                Interesting Soldbuch.

Here he is in the Rangliste for 1944. His peacetime unit appears to have been Geb.Jäg.Rgt. 137, however he does not show up in the 1.9.1939 listings for that unit.

He must have been the Kdr. of the last unit shown in the Soldbuch as his Kr.St.N. is 1:

                FP Nr. L 60757 A - Stab Infanterie-Bataillon der Luftwaffe 81.

                  Hello Ian,

                  Thank you for that!

Interesting unit, probably raised during the Slowakian Uprising in 1944.

I will have to take a look in the book "Aufstand in der Tatra" to see if this Lw Inf Btl is mentioned anywhere.

                  Erich
