    What does "(W)" Mean?

I picked up a nice set from one of our forum members and a promotion document for a Luftwaffe officer has his ranks as "Hauptmann (W)" to "Major (W)". What does the "(W)" within the rank mean? Thanks!

Rick, his name is Hans Dietrich Münter. He did enter the Reichsheer as a grenadier in May of 1925 when he was 23 years old. Served as a career soldier through the 2nd World War achieving the rank of Major. I'll shoot you a scan of his promotion pages tonight. Many of the ranks are unidentifiable to me (as they appear to be specialty ranks for these officers during the Reichsheer period). He reached Oberleutnant (W) on Oct. 1, 1938. This is the first time that the "(W)" designation appears in the ranks.

Here are the promotion pages. The promotion to Major is found further in the book.
