Heer IAB to a Luftwaffe guy.

Hello,

I was perusing another thread in the luftwaffe section

and was surprised to see this Luftwaffe guy was isssued a Heer IAB! The document is there too. How often was this done. Just interested!! Thanks.

Hi Fred,

No idea how many times it was issued but the Infanterie Sturm Abzeichen was instituted 20.12.1939, however the Luftwaffen Erdkampf Abzeichen was not instituted until 31.3.1942.

So between those dates any Luftwaffe member fulfilling the criteria would have been entitled to the award.

Just looked at the thread again and the award was issued 12.3.1944 by Feldersatz Bataillon 6 (L).
At this time the former Luftwaffe Division had been handed over to the Heer, so he was actually Army when he won the award. As actually can be seen on his discharge papers as he was discharged from Heer!
