I just acquired these two Wehrpaesse for soldiers who fought at Normandy from a friend. The first belonged to Obergrenadier Matthias Lausberg, who served with the 3./Panzer-Grenadier-Lehr-Regiment 902 of the well-known Panzer-Lehr-Division, was wounded by shell fragments on 20 June 1944, and succumbed to these wounds on 24 June 1944. Lausberg was initially buried in a meadow between Chateau Mesnil and a farm to its right. Later, he was disinterred and re-buried in the German Soldier's Cemetery in La Cambe.
The second Wehrpass belonged to Gefreiter Leonhard Popp, who served with the 7./Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 125 of the 21. Panzer-Division. On 3 July 1944, Popp was killed in action in a position between Caen and Epron, 2 1/2 kilometers north of Caen. Popp was probably initially buried near well he fell, but he two was later buried at La Cambe.
