I came across this one in my collection today. This young man was severely wounded by schrapnal to the head on January 10, 1945 approx. 17 km's away from Budapest, Hungary. He had just turned 19 on the first of Jan.
Erich Stahl first saw action in July of 1944 in the fierce battles around Warsaw. He was wounded 18/8/44 and received the wound badge in black.
Erich came back from a home leave in December and participated in the relief attempt of the forces encircled in Budapest.
Although trained in artillery, he was part of the pioneer batl. of Wiking.
Interesting is the bloody thumb print on page 1 and finger smudges on the back cover. A feldpost number on page 1 belongs to san. komp. 128 of the 23 Pz Div. Although the middle number is hard to read. 46?29
