ID tag assistance

Could a knowledgeable colleague please tell me what the 5388 and 126 refer to on these tags. My knowledge about this subject is next to zero.

5388 and 126 are the inividual numbers of the soldiers to whom the ID tag belonged.

The rest is the unit. "0" is the blood type/group of the soldier.

Just another query.....does the "E" on the IR.47 tag mean Ersatz?

Hi Mike,
Yes, you are correct. The E meant the Ersatz or replacement company. Early on the ersatz company was still part of the unit.
