    30 Januar, SS-Stammkarte, Grabmeldung, etc...

    Hello,

    To give further to the Holmzey's article concerning the SS-Stammkarte, here is a series of images resulting from my collection. All these documents result from the box of the 6. Kompanie/Freiw. Gren. Rgt. 86, unity of 32. SS Division "30 Januar". This box was found in 1990 in the South of Berlin. This box contained all the documents of the company : Stammkarte, Werhpass, the Soldbuch of the killed soldiers with copies of the letters in the family, documents of burial, of sending the news in the archives, 1/2 identiy discs, etc...

    I had the occasion to buy numerous documents resulting from this box

    First of all 50 Stammkarte with the intercalary pages for the alphabetical classification.

    I also bought several interesting documents, Grabmeldung, Verlustmeldung, Pferdestammrolle, Strafbuch-Auszug, Wehrpass, Soldbuch...

    The book presented to the centre of these documents is the only one who calls the history of this underestimated division. It is about the Mr. Rolf Michaelis's book, "Kampf und Untergang der 32. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division "30. Januar", 1993.

    Cordial greetings

    Polux

            Polux,

            Fantastic, were these discovered in East or West Germany, as was then?

            How many WP & SB did you get from this find?
            Regards

                Hello Simon,

                This box was discovered to the South of Berlin near Halbe in East Germany.

                I can not indicate the number of Wehrpass and of Soldbuch whom contained this box.

                For my collection, I bought 9 Wehrpass and 1 Soldbuch.

                --------------------------------------------------------------------
                This history calls back me another more recent history :

                In 2001, an identical box to that of 32. SS Division 30 Januar was discovered in Poland. It was about an unity of second line, regrettably not SS. This box contained 117 Wehrpass as well as miscellaneous other documents. This box had been released on an Internet site. Having been in touch with the salesman, the sale did not take place because the salesman asked for a too much raised price (more 7000 $). Here is an image of this box.

                Cordial greetings.

                  I did have some photos of the 30 Januar find around but I think they were on my other PC. If I recall correctly there were about 80 WPs and a few soldbuchs together with loads of other documents.

                  The other one Polux mentioned was also offered to me. At the time it was found for about £4000. The unit was a construction battalion (Bau-Batallion). If it had been a combat unit I would have bought it at that price. I do know of a collector who has the company records for a unit of Füs. Btl. 272. This was hidden in a farmhouse at the end of the war. Fortunately it was kept togther and sold as one lot rather than being broken up - which is what usually happens to these finds i.e. the 2./ Pz Regt 16 one.

                    After reading about collections, I must tell you what I saw last year. I was speaking to a veteren from the 16th SS Reichfuhrer. He still had his soldbuch and erkennungsmarke, so it was nice to look at origionals. In his other briefcase he had all the records from his company (i think it was the companie, not batalion)
                    It was page after page of everything they did, had, went to, etc. Also long lists of all people that were in his company. really nice to look at.

                      30 Januar

                      Dear Gary,

                      It would be possible to present the photos relative to the discovery of the box of 32. SS Division ?

                      For information, the box found in Poland contained documents attributed to the 3. / Bau.u. Sich. Btl.
                      161 and Fest. Pak. Komp. 5 / VII. This box was found in territory Ost-Prussichen in 30 kilometers to the south from Kenigsberg and 3 kilometers to west from Heiligenbeil. The archive includes :

                      1) Journal of structure (staff) of the company;

                      2) Journal of loss of the company;

                      3) Journal of the orders of the company;

                      4) Medical control books (about 40 pieces);

                      5) Wehrpass (117 pieces);

                      6) Paper money; etc...

                      Last recording in a journal are made in March 1945.

                      During my exchange of mail with the salesman, I had asked and received the registrations appearing on the page 12 of more than 100 Wehrpass who were in this box. Most of the family names of the holders of these documents appeared also on this list.

                      Cordial greetings.

                      Polux

                        Gary & Polux,

                        Very interesting information, is this a similar story as to where you got that hugh collection of Wp's early this year Gary??

                        It may be not a thing that you wish to disclose, which I understand, but how do you get approached or hear about such things
                        Regards

                          Hallo Polux,

                          have you shared the Grabmeldungen and the Verlustmeldungen with the WASt (Deutsche Dienststelle for the notification of next-of-kin of members of the former German Wehrmacht who were killed in action) because they are many peopels who search today for there ancestors and many documents of the SS where lost in the last days of WW2 so they didn't know where they are fallen.

                          I hope you informed the WASt and sent copies to Berlin.

                          Best regards,

                          Alex

                            30 Januar

                            Hello Alex,
                            Thank you for your message. Your remark is very interesting and I hope that the numerous collectors who frequent this excellent Internet site will take knowledge of this message. I collect German documents for more than 15 years. During every purchase, I send a mail to the WASt to give information and in return to receive from it. It is very clear that a copy of documents relative to 32. SS Division was sent in this institute. It is here interesting to note that my contact is largely facilitated by the presence of French staff within this institute which depends on German authorities now. I hope to have answered your waiting.

                            For information: a Stammkarte of a Swiss volunteer (my country of origin) appeared in this group.

                            Cordial greetings.
