    21st Panzer Division Soldbuch

A soldbuch belonging to Wolfgang Merkl, first active in the rebuilding of the 44th H.u.D. Division, then sent to the 21st Pz.

Last war-time entry is 7/7/44, no POW number, photo removed, cover not de-nazified.
The 9/45-10/45 hospital proves he survived the war. Only one award, one home leave.

The unit, of the middle security check, on page 15 is difficult to read.

Panzer Gren. Rgt 192 was active on the first day of the D-Day Invasion against the British.

        Hello Lee

It looks like avery nice Normandy related soldbuch. Could the unit on the security in the middle be Pz Gren Regiment Rauch signed by oblt Donitz. The security check below is signed by the same kompanie fuhrer just as his award entry. The 3rd kompanie was apperently commanded by an oblt named Donitz. I think he eargned his PAB in bronze for his actions on the first days during the Normandy invasion

        Regards

        Erwin

If I remember right, the book on the 21st pz div has this unit engaging Brit paras on the way to the beach.

The 192nd Pz Gr Rgt was part of a kampfgruppe attacking out north of Caen , along the Orne river, 1600 hrs 6/6/44. The objective was the coast between the mouth of the Orne and the outskirts of Lion-sur-Mer.

The 192nd shot down 26 gliders during another wave of airborne landings around 1900hrs.

The 192nd reached the coast Lion-sur-Mer, though under heavy British counter attacks.
