    "Italiener" Luftwaffe Soldbuch

My recently new Soldbuch which came a lot of other documentation for this man.
He originally was in the Regia Aeronautica and enlisted in the Luftwaffe in Austria.
It was found recently in Italy by my friend who keeps an eye out for me for such items. You can say my agent in Italy.

As you know many Italians enlisted in the Wehrmacht , SS and of course the Armed Forces and Security units of the RSI or Italian Social Republic after the armistice of Sept 8,1943 . Many who enlisted felt that the King and Badaglio government stabbed Germany in the back and brought dishonor for Italy . Of course others felt different.

I already had in my collection a dog tag to the same unit. There was some dispute on the (Ital.) designation on the dog tag not making any sense. It all make sense to me now as the you can see in the "Italiener" Soldbuch. I was thrilled to get this Soldbuch as the coincidence of me having the tag already was unbelievable.

There are other entries in the soldbuch , but I just scanned the first four pages so far.

    I hope you like it

Nice one Dennis. Interesting that he decided to leave Italy and go into the Luftwaffe so late in the war. Nice variation of the LW Soldbuch cover too.

Some information on Luftgaubereich 3/XVII. Seems it was the area where he worked in the carpentry workshop as carpenter.

                Thank You

The link you sent the way I read it is that it was disbanded in early 1943.

I thought he was a radio operator or signalman as that was what he was in the Italian Airforce and his dog tag denotes corresponding with his solbuch entry that it was a signal unit.

Any other info would be appreciated.

From 3.3.44 his actual unit was the "Luftgaubereichswerkstatt (N) 3/XVII". His replacement unit

(Ersatztruppenteil) was the "Ln.Ers. Luftgau / Lg. Nachr. Rg.11".

"Werkstatt "means workshop/repairshop. As his civil profession was carpenter (Tischler) I thought

he could have worked as a carpenter in the Luftgaubereichswerkstatt. I have no other proof for

that. The dog tag does not indicate the actual unit. It was given to the soldier from his first day unit.

I can clearly understand why you are so happy with that Soldbuch.
