SS Soldbuch found in Bastogne Perimeter

This SS Soldbuch was recently found in a village on the outer perimeter of Bastogne, Belgium. As far as I can tell the owner was taken POW and was not a casualty.

    It is not for sale.

Interesting as he was a former SS A.u.E Btl 5 Wiking in Ellwangen.

Appears the guy plastic laminated it's cover way back in 44, before plastic lamination mylar was developed and ever used. how can this be explained?? Very strange IMO.

Nice find. Do you know the circumstances in how it was found?

Looks like just a flash reflection, no laminate. Sometimes the covers of these get a somewhat 'glossy' look and feel after years of handling and being in a pocket. That paired with the flash, is what we are seeing.

This Soldbuch was found by a colleague in the area of Hemroulle near Bastogne. An SS belt was also found in the same location.

I've checked the VDK and Bordihn is not listed as a fatality. He was born on 27 May 1927 in Landau in East Prussia, which might go someway to explain how he was initially part of SS Wiking?

As mentioned earlier this item is not for sale.

                    Regards,
                    Simon.
