Wehrpass and Documents Fallschirm Flak Regt 1

I have had this Wehrpass to Obergefreiter Heinz Jänsch for quite a while, but have never found out too much about the Unit "Fallschirm - Flak - Regiment 1".

Jänsch trained on various Fla. Kanonen, Scheinwerfer and the ubiquitous K 98.

He then took part in Operation Barbarossa and the Battle at Brjansk. He earned the Ostmedaille on 7.8.1942 and the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe on 26.2.1943 along with the Tätigkeitsabzeichen der Luftwaffe on 3.9.1943.

After his Feuertaufe im Osten Jänsch volunteered for the Fallschirmjäger.

Posted to the Fallschirm Flak Regiment 1, he was stationed in Denmark and collected 8 "Kampftage".

In 1945, Jänsch, an Obergefreiter for over a year and a half and with experience on the front , took part in an Unteroffizierslehrgang which he eventually failed.

This interesting document, his fitness rating from the Ausbildungsstelle of the 16. Flak Division, shows in detail his weaknesses and why he is considered not yet ready for the position of Unteroffizier.

He scored a 4 (fast genügend) in his knowledge of weapons and weapons instructions and another 4 in infantry tactics.

Perhaps even more scathing than these numeric scores is the text of the rating written and signed by the Oberleutnant and training offizier.

Jänsch is "unbalanced and inmature". "He attempts to coverup his lack of self confidence, intuition and and clear headed concentration with talking loud and being pompous."

        Perhaps the worst part:

"His manner in front of his superiors is nonchalant almost apathetic..." and he shows too little interest in overcoming these deficits and acheiving the goals of the training program.

            ..

Interesting documents and rather telling that even that late In the war he was still not considered a worthy candidate for an NCOS rank.
