I recently picked up the Soldbuch to Uffizier Johann Stöffl, who earned the CCC in Silver on the Italian front.
The Soldbuch was started in July 1941. Stöffl joined Infanterie-Regiment 80 of the 34. Infanterie-Division on the central sector of the Eastern Front in the summer of 1942. He was wounded very shortly after, and rejoined the Grenadier-Regiment 80 after his recovery. As his division ended up in the Cherkasy pocket at the end of 1943, he had earned the Verwundetenabzeichen for his first wound, the EK2 and the Sturmabzeichen. He also fought briefly with Grenadier-Regiment 309 of the 208. Infanterie-Division that year. In February 1944, back with Grenadier-Regiment 80, he earned the EK1.
Stöffl survived the decimation of his division in Spring 1944 and was still with his regiment when the division was resurrected in the area of Genova, Italy, in June 1944. From August, he was involved in combats in the area Col-de-Ferro, Grimaldi, Ventimiglia and San Remo. For his fighting in Italy, Stöffl earned a promotion to Unteroffizier and the Nahkampfspange II. Stufe (silver CCC) on September 1st, 1944. There is no CCCiB entered in the Soldbuch. At the end of the war, he was moved to Grenadier-Regiment 135 of the 45. Volksgrenadier-Division, and surrendered to the Russians.
The portrait photo has unfortunately been removed. Hope you enjoy the scans.
