    Stamm Kompanies

I just wanted to see if I could get a bit more clarification on what a Stamm Kompanie was. Matt L has been nice enough to try and explain, but I'm hoping some others can perhaps provide a more detailed description of what a Stamm Kompanie actually was.

To my knowledge, this was the root kompanie of a Bataillon, one that was static in the ersatz units. Obviously many soldiers started in a Stamm kompanie and moved to field units.

So, let us assume I have NO idea whatsover what one is. Can you describe for a ignorant Canadian please?

Chris , when in doubt go tp the books!

From the 1944 U.S. war dept German English military dictionary. Stammkompanie = cadre company [for replacements].

From good old Websters, Cadre= a core group esp. of trained personnel able to assume control and to train others. and , a cell of indoctrinated leaders active in promoting the interests of a revolutionary party. , G.

Sounds like pretty much what I thought already!

      Thanks G, as always.
