Compared with most MG ski-brigade Finnland stuff i see this soldier was pretty well decorated.

Interesting to see he was transferred from the 7 Geb.Div.

the stabs Kp. of each of the 3 battalions that made up the brigade included a pionier zug, so it's not as if he's being transferred from the pioniers to the infantry.

The june '45 award of the EKII will be for mine clearing. Pretty much all pionier were put to work clearing mines straight after the war and in Norway alone well over 300 were killed during the summer of '45. The highly dangerous nature of the job being the reason they felt some of the men deserved an EK.

                    Nice Soldbuch !
On these Lappland-shields You can never be sure, but I think it might be original to the Soldbuch.

                    Kind regards, Peter

The referred to reservation of 'sogsvatn' (actually sognsvann) on the North side of Oslo is today the Norwegian school of sport sciences.

During the last months of the war, elements of the brigade were used in anti-partisan operations against the Norwegian resistance.

Thank you Simon for the info, mine clearing after the war was something of a suprise, perhaps thats why he seems to have been paid a wage after the war. Anyway its an interesting book and a bonus with the sheild. Pete.

All German soldiers continued to be paid after may '45 in Norway. After the first months, when things started to get more organised, the mineclearers started to get extra danger pay for their works.
