Wehrpass / EMarke to a notorious Army Regiment - Stalingrad /Weißruthenien

I just picked up this Wehrpass and E Marke to Sanitätsfeldwebel.

I always like the sets of Soldbuch / Wehrpass and the original E Marke...

Still nothing very interesting until one looks in the units the man served in....

Sanitätsfeldwebel Anton G. first fought with the Infanterie (Grenadier) 727 / 707. Infanterie Division.

Looking into the history of this particular division and it list of actions in Russia - two in April 1942 stand out. The division reported the following on 2. April 1942:

"die Erschießung von 133 Juden (keine Waffenfunde) und 224 Partisanen (keine Waffenbeute)."

Again on 4. April 1942 the Regiment reports:

"die Erschießung von 47 Juden neben der von 651 Partisanen (Waffenbeute: 3 Funkgeräte, 21 Gewehre, Munition). Außerdem seinen außer den bei Kampfhandlungen Erschossenen noch etwa 2.000 Partisanen und deren Helfer bei Befriedungsaktionen erschossen worden"

    G. is then later posted to Grenadier Regiment 227 on 1.11.1942 as this unit was fight with the 100. Jäger Division in Stalingrad....

After Stalingrad, G continued with the 100. Jäger Divison in Croatia until being reported to Grenadier Regiment 727.

Still wokring on how G found his way to Norway and ended the war there...

The Mitgemachte Einsätze in Russia are missing.

As a Santitäter, G was always on the frontline earning all the awards any Infanterist would have...

      Awards:
Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwerten 1.9.1942
      Ostmedaille 15.8.1942
      Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 15.3.1943
      Infanterie Sturmabzeichen 9.8.1943
      Verwundetenabzeichen 17.12.1943

Wound and "Prufblatt" common for soldiers in Norway who came under British administration after the war's end.

          Hi Erich,

I don't think this guy was part of 100 (lei.) Infanterie/Jäger Div. As the designation after Inf.Rgt. 227 was Jäger Rgt. 227 not Gren.Rgt.!

Also what confirms it for me is that he was 3 Kp./Inf.Rgt. 727 with Kriegsstammrollennummer 36, then use of the same number when with 3 Kp./Gren.Rgt. 227! So I think the clerk made a mistake writing 227 instead of 727!

          Regards,
          Ian

            Good point. Sharp eye.

Still Infanterie (Grenadier) Regiment 727 is certainly an interesting (notorious( unit.

            Thanks Ian!

            Erich
