Are passports like this uncommon?

These are pretty common and won't fetch much, unless the owner was travelling to an interesting destination.
I see his place of birth and place of living are listed as Außen (German for the exterior) I wonder what country that would be? Where did this man travel to?

The place where he was living and where he was born is named " Außen ". This is a village located in

the Kreis (county) Saarlouis , Regierungsbezirk Trier. There was a forge and in the area were

located a lot of mines. His profession was " Bergmann " (miner).

And as the passport was issued from the Landrat (district authority) in Saarlautern this indicates

that he was living in the Saar area

The word "Außen" in the passport does not mean that he was born or living in a territory outside

Germany as V1Oliver meant.
