    « Malgrés nous » French Alsatian and Lorrainers in the German Army

    Hello

    In 1940, former French Alsace and Lorraine states comes back to Germany land and their are declared Germany now

    Many mens are pressed into service for “Vaterland”

    They called themselves « Malgrés nous » (against our own will)

    For those who owns ones, show us your Wp or SD from « Malgrés nous »

      Unfortunatly I don't own the Wehrpass of my grandfather.
      He was member of the NSKK since 1941 thus before the decision of Gauleiter Wagner of 25 august 1942 to call and engage the Alsacians into the Wehrmacht or the Waffen-SS. I don't consider him as a "Malgré-nous".
      He fought during the winter 41/42 in the area of Smolensk/Mogilew then come back in Alsace. He received the Winterschlacht medal. I have 2 albums with about 200 pictures of his service in the NSKK. Very interesting and well documented. I also have his dogtag: 1313 POL.VERW.MULHAUSEN/ELS.
      His grade was Rottenführer.
      The WASt has nothing concerning is service in the NSKK but I learn a bit more for the end of the war.
      In 1944 in was in service as Obergefreiter with the Fallschirm-Ersatz- und Ausbildungsregiment "Hermann Göring" then in the 4. Flak-Regiment of the Fallschirm-Division HG.
      His dogtag was: 153 - 16./Ers.u.Ausb.Rgt."Hermann-Göring". (I don't have this one)
      He was wounded in the face in march 1945 while using a Panzerfaust and loose one eye. In his journal he wrote he also received the wound badge but I don't have it. This accident probably saved him… He came back in Elsaß in mai 1945.

        If i get it right, you said you don't consider him as someone who has been urged to serve the German army ?

        Without willing to judge him, does he feel in his place serving in the German army ?
