I picked this grouping up on eBay from a seller who also supports this forum. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me anything particular about this person. I'm thinking he was an enlisted pilot. Thanks!

The FP nr. on the box corresponds with 42675.

      (28.2.1941-29.7.1941) I. Gruppe Sturzkampfgeschwader2,
      (8.9.1943-22.4.1944) 11.12.1943 I. Gruppe Schlacht-Geschwader 2.

If I read his name correctly Josef Wurm, then unfortunately I can not find any info on a pilot or airgunner with that name at the moment.

There are a lot of photos of men in overalls.....so is the holder ground crew?

That's it actually. I don't know anything about the guy. I know there is a pic of a Stuka with a "devil" wappen that states that that particular aircraft is his.

Looking at the photos, the one that appears the most also appears in overalls which looks more like ground crew. So the photo that says it is his aircraft could well be the one he services.

When you get the group there might be better indications to the rear...or do you have it now?

As mentioned, I could not find anyone with that name or similar as aircrew for that unit.

If he was the one with 500 missions then he would have at least been an Ehrenpokal holder...of which there is no Josef Wurm with high awards.

However there is a 1939 dated document stating that he does have a flying helmet....which is of course not normally issued to ground crew, however some ground crew did go on flights to verify kit, radios etc.

The penultimate photo in the ebay link shows a group of 5 men of which only one appears to be aircrew and have any qualification / combat awards.

          /Ian

The dog emblem on a white circle is that of I Gruppe which matches the fieldpost number.
The ID tag belongs to 9 Staffel which is III Gruppe. 9 Staffel did use a devil in a shield as their Wappen.

Here is a brief history of the unit and locations Sturzkampfgeschwader 2 "Immelmann"

            And unit emblems Emblems

My guess is he was a ground crew member - otherwise his tag would be marked only with MOB-code instead of the unit name.
