Rommel's Soldbuch - Up for Auction

Reading through a German Military Magazine couldn't help but notice that a German auction house had Feldmarschall Erwin Rommell's Soldbuch up for auction on 14th June 2012 two days ago. Estimated value around 40,000 euro. Write up decribes it so - issued 18 October 1939 has the signature of Alfred Jodl in it and all of Rommels promotions from Generalmajor to Generelfeldmarschall 22.6.42. Rommel had it on him as he was forced to commit suicide. In the first picture is the doctor's statement in the Soldbuch - on 14.10.44 at 13.25pm dead on arrival at Res. Lazarett Ulm (Donau) Teillazarett: Diagnosis Heart failure due to in the West suffered service accident. A very nice piece of history but it comes with a high price tag. I've no idea what it went for ?

How did the same guy end up with this and sel it twice? This don't sound rite to me also didn't his family keep all his stuff and still have it today?

From what I heard, his son donated most of Rommel's militaria to the Bundeswehr. His medals are on display at the barracks named after him.

Robs - I've been keeping a eye out for the sale results, until now found nothing - where did you find them? as to who the vendor was, I don't think we shall ever know - all auction-houses the world over operate a strict confidentiality policy, apart from the sale price, information is never given out to third parties and certainly not just to quell the general public's interest.

Blitzkrieg - It was the same auction house which goes by the name of Andreas Thies that sold the piece twice - not the same man.

As to what military effects Rommel's family kept or sold on I don't know. Vacollector says that his medals are displayed at the Bundeswehr camp named after him, this seems to me to be entirely feasible. I did read that Rommel's tunics are on display at a museum in Münster, if correct it would appear that the family have given up some pieces

Thanks Robs for the auction sales price list link - unfortunately I never knew the actual article no. of the Rommel's Soldbuch on the list ! I noticed, quite a number of high-end pieces got sold, one No.1022 went for 350000 Euro god knows what it was. Perhaps the Soldbuch will come up again in the near future with a lower reserve price. If possible could you let me have the article number.

Soldbuch, Driver licence and Wehrstammbuch never had been part of Rommel's estate. These items were kept in Kriegsschule (before 1938 and after 1945 called Militärakademie) Wiener Neustadt in Austria. Rommel was commander of this school shortly before the beginning of the war.

Rommels soldbuch was item 1053.

Item 1022 was an RAD presentation dagger for Mussolini, which met the reserve at 350,000 euro.
