    Soldbuch Croatian Legion

    Hello!

Today I receive a couple of docs of the Croation Legion. There is also this Soldbuch.

My question: Is the award which he is wearing the Hrvatska Legija 1941?

    Thank you.

    Ralf,

I can not make that out at all, however here is a link to one with the award criteria on Collectors Guild Hrvatska Legija 1941

I would say it is. This is where it was worn (sometimes worn on the side of a cap, but almost always on the left breast pocket).

As I discovered during the writing of my book about the unit (http://www.leapinghorseman.com.au/pr...75107683&cat=5), this badge was not just given to men who served with the unit in Russia 1941-1942. Confusingly, it was given to men who joined the unit in 1943, as an honour, rather than recognition of service.

Found the following in the linked article:
"The Croatian Legion 1941" Linden Leaf badge was awarded to the former veterans of the regiment who survived the battle in Stalingrad. It was to be worn on the left breast pocket of their German or Croatian uniform."

This is incorrect. The badge was first awarded in mid-1942 and most Croatian soldiers entering Stalingrad were already wearing the badge.

                  Nice picture.
BTW- here you go a interesting picture from Net - was the linden leaf "Hrvatska legija 1941"badge worn also on the hat? Or is this another linden leaf badge /pin? Or only a non regulation wearing?

I have a strange feeling that the pic belongs to me!

In 1942, during the advance to Stalingrad, the Croatian legionnaires rarely wore the "Hrvatska legija 1941"badge on their chests. They were almost always worn as shown, on the left side of the cap. Here's another example (photo is not mine, hence the heavy copyrighting, but if the owner wants it removed, please let me know).
