Hi all,
Just get this nice Wehrpass related to Crete and from one
interesting and rare unit (?) the Kradschützen-Btl.55.
Two units from the 5.Panzer-Division did participate at
the Merkur Operation :
- The Kradschützen-Btl.55 landed on 23 May 1941
- Few elements from the 5./Pz.Rgt.31 landed on 27 May 1941
On 11.07.39, Wagner went in the II./Schützen-Rgt.14 and
did participate at the Poland campaign.
On 10.08.40, this Regiment gave the birth to Krad.Btl.55
and Wagner followed the campaigns of the 5.Pz.Div. in
Belgium, France, Yougoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece and Crete.
On 13.09.41. elements of the 5.Pz.Div. helped to form the
Kradschützen.Btl.23. Wagner fought with the 23.Pz.Div.
afterward and was involded in the battle of Charkoro.
then Norway (I guess).
His late rank was Feldwebel and he earned:
- KvKII.
- Panzer-Kampf-Abzeichen in Bronze.
- EKII.
- Verw.Abz. im Schwarz (he was wounded on 17.11.42)
- Armelband KRETA on 28.05.43
FJ or GJ units are well known for their participation at the Mercury
Operation an documents are not rare to find (if you pay the price)
but I think that this related Mercury Wehrpass is one of my rarest one !
