    Flak badge entries

I like to see entries regarding the award of the Flak badge to members of the Heer, also I like to know if someones knows which Waffenfarbe wear this men in their shoulder straps, I have read that must be white, but all references I have seen reverted it to red. Also will be very helpfull if someone has info about this badge awarded to flak personal in Infanterie Regiments and in Stabs of divisions.

    Cheers

    Angel

Regarding Waffenfarbe: Here are two photos of the holder 1943 in Italy and 1944 in Russia.
Difficult to make out the colour but I would say it definately is not white!

          Angel,

Here's an awards page from a wehrpass to an Unteroffizier of Heeres Flak Abt. 278 attached to 23 Pz. Div. (also known for a time as IV./ Pz AR 128).
          Awards are:

          EK2 - 30th June 1942
          Ostmedaille - 9th Seotember 1942
          KVK with Swords 2nd Class - 1st May 1942
          Army Flak Badge - 4th april 1943
Bronze Close Combat Clasp - 24th December 1944

I think the Close Combat clasp is rather unusual for a Flak soldier especially as his company was supposed to be equipped with 88mm Flak.

          Cheers,
          Gary.

For men of flak battalions the waffenfarbe would be red as they were part of the artillery arm...not sure about those in flak platoons/companies that were an integral part of panzergrenadier regiments. If the pionier example (black for battalion, white for regimental enginners) is anything to go by I think they should have been grass green.

              Ian,

Yeah, I heard white as the waffenfarbe for army AA units...however what about those flak battalions that became part of an artillery regiment (as per above). Did they change to red? Or those flak companies in Panzergrenadier regiments who had waffenfarbe that was grass green? And those companies in Panzerjager abtielung? Did they wear pink?
I bet this waffenfarbe idea looked so simple on paper

Thanks to both, Gary regarding the Flak troops being awarded the CCC I remember I read in Schrijnen memories that in a moment of the war, can't be more precise but must be prior his KC award on september 21st, 1.944, all men from the heavy weapons received close combat days for his frontline service and a lot of them were awarded CCC in bronze and silver, himself received the CCC in silver that he never wore because he thought that this was an infantry award and not a reward to the PAK or FLAK members that has seen the white of the enemy eyes 4 or 5 times only.

                Cheers

I know that this is a five year old thread, but i believe that this visor, found in Budapest about 10 years ago, should shed some light on what piping the Heeres flak abt. wore when attached to its parent panzer division..
