    1st War entries in wehrpass(again!)

    Hi,hoping some of you guys out there can help me on this one!
    This guy served in 1st war,as you can see by the entries on page 12,could anyone decipher them please?Also page 23 states he was awarded EK2,and black wound badge,why is the entry dated 3 years after his stay in hospital?He was also awarded Cross of honour(i have award doc),but on the photo his wound badge is there but only a single ribbon bar,with what looks like non combatant EK ribbon,any ideas why?Also included are a few more scans,any help in deciphering these would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    yorkie

      Hello Yorkie.
      The WW I wound badge was instituted only in early 1918 so belated awards for it were not unusual. Also applications for Iron Crosses were accepted as late as 1924 , here again one may encounter bestowal dates much later than the end of hostilities.

                    And finaly the uniformed photograph.

                    Yorkie I would realy recomend becoming an Association Member. The benefits are obvious, see above. Try Seba regarding the paypal problems.

                    Cheers

                        Hello Yorkie.
                        Here are the high points in English:
                        -pge 4 gives his education as gradeschool and having a drivers permit for what I believe passenger car;
                        -pge 5 lists the several medical checks re. the man's medical condition in regards to service levels he is capable of . Here it goes from I fit for garrison duty home area, then conditional / limited fitness to last fit for active duty. This reflects the increasing manpower demands and lowering of standards to scoop up live bodies;
                        -pge 13 lists his assignments to different units beginning with training in E.Btl. I.R. 79, then as of 31.8.15-1.6.16 5.Coy, Res.Inf.Rgt.231 (?);
                        -1.6.16-25.7.16 wounded and in hospital;
                        -26.7.16- 25.8.16 Recovery(from wounds) Coy II./E.Btl. I.R.79 then 3./same btl.;
                        -followed by assignments to Ldw.Inf.Rgt.'s 383, 251
                        -discharged 11.12.1918 but appears again in Inf.Rgt. 164 as of 3.1.19, then until 11.10.19 in various units
                        -pge 13 lists assignments to Landesschuetzen units (basically homeguard/militia);
                        pge 32 gives the main theatres of ops he served in ;
                        1915 Eastfront,
                        15/16 Westfront,
                        16/17 Westfront.
                        1917 Eastfront,
                        17/18 Westfront
                        pge next to photo gives personal data which you can make out with hepl of a dictionary.

                          Many thanks for all your help Bernhard,much appreciated!Anyone have any idea what the ribbon on his bar is,and why the EK2 and Hindenburg cross aren't on it when he was awarded them?I'm presuming he is the guy on the far left of the picture!

                          Kind Regards,

                            Andy,

                            Here's how I read the units:

                            31.8.15 - 1.6.16 - 5. Komp. Res. Inf. Regt. 231
                            1.6.16 - 25.7.16 - verwundet i. Lazarett
                            26.7.16 - 25.8.16 - Gen. Komp. II Eibtl (?) I. R. 79
                            26.8.16 - 29.8.16 - 3 Komp. " " "
                            30.8.16 - 3.5.17 - 4. Komp. Ldw. Inf. Regt. 383
                            4.5.17 - 27.11.17 - 8. Komp " " " "
                            29.11.17 - 11.12.18 - 3. Komp. Res. Inf. REgt. 251
                            3.1.19 - 31.3.19 - 9. Komp. Inf. Regt. 164
                            1.4.19 - 15.5.19 - Wirtschafts-Komp. II Btl. I.R. 164

                            I believe that in the First World War such units as Ldw. I. R. (Landwehr Infantry Regiments) and Reserve Infnatry Regiments were actually frontline units unlike in the Second World War.

                            Cheers,
                            Gary.
