              Aufstellung: 28.7.1943 im WK V durch Aufstellungsstab Heuberg (Regiment 968).

              Unterstellung: Heerestruppe: Griechenland, Oktober 1944 Serbien, 1945 Bosnien, Kroatien

              Ersatz: 999 (Bewährungstruppe) Heuberg, WK V, ab 1.1.1944 Baumholder, WK XII; sonstiges Personal: WK VIII

                Thank you very much, that's the one Sorry for the confusion, V vs F was a typo, L vs I. wasn't easy to make out.

                  A "Scotland Yard 999" reference appeared in one of the early Sven Hassel novels that I read as a kid years ago ("Wheels of Terror"?) In his book he claimed that a penal battalion was deliberately numbered 999 as a joking reference to the Scotland Yard phone number. I don't know when "999" was introduced as the emergency services number in Britain, but at the time of WWII I believe the Scotland Yard number was "1212". I'd always assumed the Sven Hassel reference was just a bit of literary license, not based on fact.
