    Small group Lw. Stug.Abt. 1018

I posted this in response to the M44 in wear thread, however thought I would show it here as well.

These are the only ones I have scanned so far but can show more if anyone is interested. Unfortunately there are no awards in the Soldbuch.

Former Luftwaffe member who transferred to the Army, serving with Luftwaffen Panzerjäger/Sturmgeschutz Abteilung 18 (1018) of 18 Luftwaffen Feld Division in Dunkirk and Normandy then transferring to Officer training school. Ending the war with Kampfgruppe Neukloster.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for showing your man here too.

Interesting career move, and by that making that Soldbuch much more interesting.

When did your man go over to the Army (looking at the large photo) ?

    yours friendly

      Hi EJ,

Because he was LW Feld Division they were all transferred to Army control November 1943, so he stayed with the same unit just they exchanged their LW uniforms for Army.

Will need to go get it as I don't have it to hand at the moment.....interestingly the FP Nr. on page 4 belongs to 6 Kompanie, Luftwaffen Jäger Regiment 8 which I can not find any info on at the moment!!!

Had this four years but only just getting round to looking at it!!!

Not sure if this will be of any help, or if it's even accurate, but:

            Thanks Rob,

If it works out correctly Lw.Jäg.Rgt. 8 should belong to 4 Lw. Feld Div.:

            1: 1-2
            2: 3-4
            3: 5-6
            4: 7-8
            :
            14: 27-28
            15: 29-30
            etc.

But I can not find much reference to them......I have the Soldbuch here now so will have another look to see if there are any other clues.

Neat Soldbuch, and a really interesting unit Ian. Are those piped collar tabs in the Soldbuch photo?

Something more often seen with HG units. A very nice Soldbuch photo indeed!

I thought this was common for Luftwaffen Feld Division as well?

                        ..

                        Nice group Ian!!

Once again you post a unique selection.

You are also correct about Lw FD having piped collars. I seem to recall a few posted recently on the Lw insignia forum.

                          Nice piece, indeed !
Any entry in the same unit after 23 7 44 ? So, he was perhaps not with 18.FD (L) when involved in battle in northern Seine area (not Normandy !), after mid august 44.

Every Soldbuch I have seen where somone was assigned to a LW FD I cannot find the piping in the photo (darker Jäger green?). Ian's example is the first LW FD Soldbuch photo I have seen where the branch piping stands out. Maybe it is due to the branch color?

Unfortunately not, from 1.8.1944 he was with Pz.Gren.Ausb.Btl. 5, then to Fahnenjunkerschule. April 1945 Kampfgruppe Neukloster under Hauptmann von Lüttwitz.

Interestingly I found a FP Nr that I did not know was in the Soldbuch:

                              01712 - (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 17.3.1944 Stab der Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 1018, Melde-Division 18 (L)

                              Melde-Division 18????
