the owner of this told it was of a relative, italian nationality...but isn't this the shape and the model of german soldiers? Do they used them also for their allied and in which cases?

Any clue on the meaning of the letters in?

there should be ITAL. written on it if this came from italian soldier in the wehrmacht

It reads:

1º Reggimento Bersaglieri / 8 compagnia

very nice tag from a soldier of 8th coy, 1st Italian light Infantry Regiment - The Bersaglieris trained in Bavaria with German instructors
