These are Labour/Work Books. Every one had one...not that I have ever really studied them but you have an early one and a latter pattern one.

The first entry in the Labour Book indicates that this man was working with the "Elbe" Dampfschiffahrts-Aktengesellschaft, Hamburg. He was an inland waterways or river sailer with a steamship company.

                      Hi Rob,

Several "dodgy" dealers here in the UK sell these work books, and describe them as "Nazi passports"!
They are very common, and sell for around £10-15 each.
However, I quite like them; and look out for unusual work entries, such as military clerks and famous factories such as Heinkel and Dornier etc.
Most have a few entries, but I have one at the moment with nineteen different work places entered over the war period.
Bought a mix of Arbeitsbuch and DAF members dues books (nineteen in total) for four euros each!
I think they can be described as "slow but steady" sellers in the UK!

                      Best regards,

                      John
