That does look like the top edge of an EKI.

It should be possible to do some research. If this guy did recieve both EK2 and 1 on the same day, I would love to know what happened.

I also love his hospital entries. It would appear that he was shot through his left shoulder (?) 12.09.1941. Apart from that, he was hit by grenade schrapnel and shot additional 3 times. Still he remained in service untill the end of the war

If both classes of the EK were awarded at the same time, wouldn't they be written in the solduch by the same person? The hand writing appears to be a bit different between the two EK entries.

                    My 2 cents worth:

I'm convinced (even though the entries are unconventional) that it is real (the ek1 entry). The 3 factors I considered are:
                    • If the ek1 entry is a post war add-on then where is the ekii award date? (see picture)
                    • If both are fabrications then why would the later award entries appear further down the page after the ek1 entries? (see picture)
                    • There is nothing unusual about 2 eks being awarded on the same day: if you look in the iron cross documents section of the main WAF website:
Feldwebel Kinsch, Inf. Regt. 120 (mot) (60 Inf. (mot)) - awarded the EK 1, EK 2 and Silver Wound Badge on same day. Was severely wounded the previous month.

I don't have a problem with the EK I entry.

Of course sometimes the date is unknown when the entry is made in the Soldbuch, sometimes you can see a date is written with a different pen or different coloured ink later.

Additionally if both classes were awarded on the same day it might have been an immediate EK II with confirmation of the EK I later in orders or something similar, so they would not necessarily have been entered on the same day or by the same persion!

I would tend to go with the first option where the date was not known at the time of entry.

Again one of those that we might never know the answer!

                      /Ian
