Yup! Hard for us to imagine, what with all the "Blitzkrieg" propaganda and the seemingly unstoppable mechanized forces of 1939-40, but the German armed forces remained dependent on horse drawn transportation right to the very--as this shows-- end.

You've got TWO Arbeitsbücher-- is that the "family" part? Nice set to get multiple IDs to the same person.

Was this a kid called up that late in 1944, or an older guy "winkled out" into a branch of service which we would not normally think of as "combatant?"
