What did you pick-up for 2011?

Would be great to see what our fellow collectors have added to there collections during 2011. So please share.

It was a good year overall. Added a number of Soldbücher and Wehrpaß to the collection.

After many decades I finally added a DKiG Soldbuch. It is to Hauptamnn Thies. He was from Goldap in East Prussia. Towards the end of 1944 while serving in East Prussia Thies was allowed emergency leave to visit Goldap for the last time just a day before it fell to the Soviets.

Actual German combat footage of Goldap being retaken. Goldap was part of the defensive belt created to protect East Prussia. The town was fiercely fought over.

While in Danzig during early 1945 a medical notation was made that he was feigning illness! He was probably fed up with the war. Interestingly on 21.4.45 he was in a Berlin Reservelazarette. My guess is that he was pressed into and assigned to the cities area defense at some point prior to the hospital .

It hasn't been a bad year for the collection. My 'core' collecting theme was FJ to fill a gap in the collection which I achieved with a WP to a member of Luftlande Sturm Rgt 1 and a SB to a member of Fallschirm-Pz.Jager Abt 7 (both Crete veterans), and I was also able to add 2 SB's for CCCiS winners as well as 2 Großdeutschland SB's, one a founding soldier from 1939 and the other from 1942. But my favourite this year would be this WP to a Ships Company member of the battleship 'Bismarck' who joined her in June 1940 and died when she went down.

He is listed in the Volksbund database and on the Laboe Memorial, and is listed in the crew listings as having been onboard during her war cruise. It isn't packed full of entires but it is a very nice item to a member of an iconic ship.

Nice one Hucks216. Any Wehrpaß to the Bismarck show up very infrequently. I do not collect KM, but that is one of the first I have seen in a long time.

I finally found a panzer sb that is pretty cool. He was in pz rgt 8 and 2 and won the pab silver and bwb. It has taken me 10 years to find one with the wrapper and a legit entry for the pab.

There were a few items this year but I suspect my favorite was the Soldbuch, documents and dog tag (and a few insignia) to Major Siegried Kühn. K served his entire career with the RGG/HG div. finally surrendering to the western allies. His unit listing is below....

Nice wehrpass Kevin, I`ve never seen a Bismark wehrpass before

                              Cheers
