Matt, no wondering,,It is official to use KL . You might come across K.L. but it would just be a mistake! After all Theodor Eicke's proper title was=Fuehrer der SS-TV u. KL , we wouldn't want to piss him off

Simply , yes.. Also collectors should never use wear in the holes from the neck cord for authentication..Even though it was against regulations some soldiers did not wear their tags around their necks but kept them in their soldbuchs . Also at a military show in East Europe a vendor showed me a few techniques. He put wear holes on a blank tag with a strong rough cord in less than 10 min.. After a little ageing this would have fooled anybody..
Joe N, if your happy with your tag thats all that matters! happy hunting guys, G.
Hey gaspare, thanks for the information. A couple things just to clarify to you; it is not my tag, and I was not happy with it, that's why I've posted to those with more knowledge here than I have. I've learned a bit here, thanks again. I'll just keep what I find
Joe

No, I can't imagine pissing Eicke off was a good career move
I don't actually use features to prove authenticity as much as I use them or their absence to suggest otherwise. Just as it's actually impossible to prove something is absolutely true, it only takes one tiny thing to suggest that it's not. So, to me, the lack of wear can be a warning flag. It's always a combination too. Even the likelihood of anyone even making a fake of a particular unit is something I consider. Of course with SS discs that's a big one, and for KZ (or KL) discs I'd think even moreso. I honestly can't say I see why they're so desirable, except perhaps because they're so rare.
