Fw. August: Poland, France, Stalingrad?

Hello,

just got this Wehrpass to Fw Ernst August of IR 95 (17. ID) and IR 546 (389. "Rheingold" ID).

August fought in the IR 95 throughout Poland including the battle around Warsaw and in Belgium and France....

According to the unit list, he then transferred to the 389. ID (IR 546) during the battle of Stalingrad although there are no entries for Stalingrad.

August won the following awards:

Sudentenmedaille, EK II, Reichssportabzeichen, Dienstauszeichnung (4. Jahre), Schiessauszeichnung 1. Stufe.

Any idea about the Stalingrad timeframe?

Looks like he transferred away from Inf.Rgt. 586 on 28.7.1942. 389 ID was under 6 Armee, VIII Armee Korps on the bend of the Don at the time on the road to Stalingrad!

Due to there not being any unit info for a few months, obviously the clerk filling it in did not know his units, perhaps he was in hospital?

Seeing as you did not post page 34, I take it there are no entries?

He never returned to a front line unit and according to the document dated 7.2.1945 was classed as labour fit only with Skull fracture, concussion and resulting conditions (Schädelbruch, Gehirnerschütterung und Folgezustände).

Inf.Ers.Btl. 95 provided replacements for Inf.Rgt. 95 and 17 Inf.Div. with Gren.Ers.Btl. 485 providing replacements for Inf.Rgt. 546.

Yes, I forgot about that...the head injury. It does not saw when it happened and that are not medical entries in the Wehrpass - and no Wound Badge.
