    Interesting SA/NSDAP Wehrpaß!

I have seen a few threads recently regarding "Golden Party Badges" and "Blood Orders" and the entry in Wehrpaß.

I knew I had a couple somewhere with at least GPB being worn or entered but having the time to look for them was going to be difficult.....

Due to the fact that these are Party awards and not Military awards, they are not normally entered in the Wehrpaß.

Here is one I have had since 1999.....he is wearing the GPB in the photo. Of interest in the entry that he is a Standartenführer!

Page 4 details him as a SA Führer, according to his own statement!

In the past I have tried to research this person but drew up with a blank and that was that......

However today with the internet, I find that Karl Jackstien was indeed a SA Standartenführer from 15.11.1933 and achieved the rank of SA Oberführer!

He also joined the NSDAP 10.3.1925 with membership number 16156.

After the war he fought with the Freikorps in the Baltic States and in 1923 he participated in the German guerrilla actions against the Franco-Belgian occupation of the Ruhr area . Together with Louis Knickmann and two men named Löschen and Buchholz he committed attacks on occupation forces and their infrastructure, so on 11 March 1923 on the Northern Railway in Buer. On 25 June 1923 he was arrested for this reason by the Prussian police at the behest of the Belgian occupation authorities.
Not knowing who Knickmann was, I also Googled him..... he is listed as a Martyr of the Party!

Ludwig Knickmann from Buer, Westphalia participated since 1916 in the First World War. One was a passionate opponent of the November criminals, and fought in 1918 before establishing the volunteer corps armed with a small group of friends against the red rulers in Buer in small actions. Until 1920 he was a member of volunteer associations and self-protection, in November 1922 he joined the Nazi Party. In the red at Gelsenkirchen Buer, his hometown, he worked hardest against red terror for the collection of the German people and a loyal employee of his brother Heinz Knickmann in the organization of active defense against the enemy's occupation forces. At the time of the Ruhr disgrace was Ludwig Knickmann leader of a troop surge, the engaged in the struggle against the French and Belgium to the Ruhr occupation forces was used. After numerous operations against the strategic lines of communication of the occupation army, he was betrayed by a paid spy to the Belgians. In a collision with a Belgian patrol on 21 June 1923 he received after bravest resistance with a chest shot. His faithful companion Karl Jackstien dragged the wounded in spite of persecution by the Belgians to the lip and tried to cross the river with him. It did not work. He tried kink man who could not swim more, using a pair of pants wearer, whom he had bound him to the shoulder to move through the lip. After he had swum about three-quarters of the river, broke the tape, and bend man who was very weakened, drowned. Jackstien was not able to help him, because he himself was exhausted by the excessive effort. The flood had become the leading lip raging torrent and ripped a sore Ludwig Knickmann in depth.

Ludwig Knickmann honor several roads have been designated, in Bottrop and also in Bonn, Ludwig-Knickmann Street (Lievelingsweg). The SA Standard 137 in Westphalia, Gelsenkirchen was awarded the honorary title of "standard articulated man." The Reich Labour Service camp in Wulfen also contributed his name. In Marlborough there was a monument in his honor and a school named after him. The RLB country group air defense school in Bad Godesberg was named Ludwig Knickmann-house.
Now to the Blutorden.....the award was extended to persons who had (a) served time in prison for Nazi activities before 1933, (b) received a death sentence which was later commuted to life imprisonment for Nazi activities before 1933, or (c) been severely wounded in the service of the Party before 1933.

So, does this make Jackstien a potential holder of the Blood Order!?!?!

There starts my initial research.....I have got to go out now....much to my annoyance but will carry on later....

Also attached a photo of Jackstien in SA uniform!!

That is a great Wehrpaß Ian.

Historicaly interesting too as an SA Standarte was named after Knickmann; SA Standarte 137 Ludwig Knickmann. Standarte was out of Gelsenkirchen. Note that in block #13 of Wehrpaß Jackstein's address is given as Gelsenkirchen. A check should also turn up that he most probably served with Standarte 137 at some point during his SA career.

Their was also a neat period made tinnie manufactured out of metal and cloth with the Knickmann Standarte on it!

I have a Wehrpaß also too an SA Führer. Have never researched it. Was wondering if any information could still be found on his SA career from an archival search.

        Edward,

The Wehrpaß was issued from Wehrmeldamt 2 Gelsenkirchen......I have only just noticed it and I wonder if Jackstien had anything to do with it, however his address is Gelsenkirchen, Ludwig Knickmannstraße 84 !!!

On 15.11.1933 he was promoted to SA Standartenführer and with the leadership of SA Standarte 137 named after his friend Ludwig Knickmann.
Later he was still in the SA and promoted to Oberführer in Gelsenkirchen, where he was City Councilman.

The rest of the Wehrpaß is of course his military career which I will show if anyone is interested. He was killed in action 29.9.1943 as an Oberleutnant und Kompanie Chef.

        /Ian

Fantastic photo and WP Ian. However he is not listed as having been awarded the Blood Order. An Ernst Jackzentis is the closest name I can find.
Wow what a story though !!

              Thanks for the info Jon,

I will try and post more tomorrow, however all that is in the Wehrpass is his military history or course.....interestingly nothing related to his WWI service or Freikorps time!

Last time I checked, before moving house, so 6 years ago, there was nothing about him on the internet!

              /Ian
