Its the Minensuch - U-Bootsjagd und Sicherungsverbände Kriegsabzechen - Minesweeper, U-Boat Hunter and Security units War Badge........what unit was he with?

I would say some sort of commercial boat turned into a minesweeper.

1940-1941 he served with Hafenschutz-Flottille Cherbourg. Can't make out the one underneath that.....any other entries that might give us a clue?

It's definitely a Hafenschutz-Flottille he served with.....not sure if its Kanalküste?
