Hello

For sure, an original dogtag, but Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 72 was not (!) part of the 46. Infanterie Division.

Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 72 was part of the Division 193, which was part of the Ersatzheer ("replacement-army") in contradistinction to the 46. Infanterie Division, which was part of the Feldheer. ("Field-army")

Hello, you are right, i found this: " Das Bataillon selbst unterstand der Division 193 und stellte den Ersatz für die 46. Infanterie-Division", which means once translated the battalion 72 was part of Division 193, to serve as replacement for division 46.

The bataillion was part of Division 193 and was responsible for the replacement of staff of XXI. Gebirgs-Armeekorps; staff of 46. Infanterie-Division; staff of 246. Volks-Grenadier-Division; staff of Division z.b.V. 424; staff of Ortskommandantur 654; staff of 713. Infanterie-Division and for the replacement of Infanterie-Regiment 72; Infanterie-Regiment 218; Infanterie-Regiment 733; Grenadier-Regimenter 72; Grenadier-Regimenter 352; Grenadier-Regimenter 404; Grenadier-Regimenter 689; Jäger-Regimenter: 218; Festungs-Maschinengewehr-Bataillone: 54.

Ok, how does it happened? is that the entire battalion replaced one of these units, or is that Each one of these units levied men in the battalion 72?

Hello

Each unit from this list gets personal from the Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 72.
The units have to report how many soldiers are KIA and than they got the same number of persons from the replacement unit.
