    Units

    Hi All,

Any chance of some help in determing what divisions these battalions belonged to or where they saw action for the appropriate dates?

I am having some problems finding the relevant info on Lexikon der Wehrmacht.

    Hi David,

You will not find these on Lexikon at the moment...unless they are in Sicherungs Divisions:

The Landesschützen units were normally used for prisoner of war guards or local defence...in this case occuaption troops in France!

    Landesschützen-Bataillon 496
    Under: Wehrkreis X, Division 410 Wesermünde, Witzendorf bei Soltau, 1942 Munsterlager, 1943 Hamburg-Wandsbek (1945 490. Division)

    Landesschützen-Bataillon 961
    Under: Militär-Verwaltungsbezirk B Southwest France; 12.11.1942 1. Armee; 11.1.1943 Heeresgebiet South France

    Landesschützen-Bataillon 799
Under: Militärbefehlshaber Frankreich, Verwaltungsbezirk B in Escource; 5.4.1943 Verwaltungsbezirk Northeast France

    Marsch Bataillon 383
Most probably a transfer battalion for the 383 Inf.Div., transferring those from rear echelons to the front line unit. At that time 383 Inf.Div. was around Orel in Russia.

Thanks Ian, very much appreciated. The last unit entry is with 383 I.D. where he was killed in Orel.
