Thanks Jochen. The one you have shown is from a portrait-sized picture I also got with the group. This is the one the former owner was offering with some of the uniform items he was going to sell, and had been separated from the other documents for sale. I'm pleased to have put all the photos, uniform items, and documents back together again.

    regards, Robert

Interesting grouping, and good to see that award entries that didn't look that original at first sight, are backed-up by other document.

Well Robert with those first images you did lead me up and down the garden path.
It really shows how wrong one (me included) can be with only a small part of the total picture.

But I do know of the existence of a Soldbuch where the soldier did wrote his official awarded RK and some other awards in it after the war.

      yours friendly

Thanks Jan. The problem with so many of the Soldbuchs and Wehrpasses out there is that that IS all there is, and with no supporting documents, they are doomed to live their collectible lives in the "tampered with" drawer. I got lucky on this one.

I think that the unconventional method of recording this man's last awards - all three on the same day and one by a SS unit - was worthy of putting out there. With the last weeks of the war, this man not only got recommended/awarded medals, found the actual medals, and got his picture taken wearing them, but also got a final written officers evaluation of his performance in the last few days of the war.

Having said that, being cautious about such entries is a healthy thing to do in these days of higher fraud.

Thanks for the extra photo of the date, at that angle i can see it.

A pity the award documents are not with the group.

Ok...i have to push up this threat. This man fought in my hometown. I´ll know all this area´s from his CCC - list.
            Amazing and wonderful...

And i remeber, that WOLLINSKY will be interviewed for the book: Die letzten Kämpfe des zweiten Weltkriegs im südlichen Niederösterreich von Friedrich Brettner (that means: the last fightings of ww2 in the southern lower austria)... interviewed or only written...but i´ll know the name from this book.

            Best regards
            Bernhard

Bernhard, I'll make copies and send them over. I'd be fascinated to see what landmarks may still exist from the battle days, and recorded unit movements.

              regards, Robert

Thank you Rob! Believe it or not, it started with just the trousers, being offered with a photo of the owner. It took months before the owner reluctantly agreed to sell me everything - at least it wasn't years.

I really like the documentation, from his first days in the Hitler Youth tthrough RAD and into the German army. It has his officer application process - really interesting to me.

The three awards on one day still blows me away. And I think it really speaks to his mentality that he actually went to the trouble (and risk) of finding a photographer to capture him sporting his new awards days before the third reich ended. Many soldiers were burying their uniform at this stage.

                    regards, Robert
