A truly excellent thread! I am sorry the outcome was not a positive one. I guess this should be a reminder that seperating the wheat from the chaff is not getting any easier, however it can still be done by diligent and dedicated collectors.

Jeff V and others who helped on this thread, at least the collector who sold me the Wehrpaß was honest and today reimbursed me for the full amount paid. Now he has a problem getting the Wehrpaß back to it's previous owner. The seller actually contacted me to get this taken care of and he felt very bad about the whole thing (he is more of a uniform than a paper collector). I gave him all information received in the hopes that he can get his money back also which was also no small amount.

You talked about trying to track it back to the original source. That sounds like a very very cool idea. Tracking it back to see where it came from could potentially give us some insight as to where this high-end faker was from.

I am very curious about this.

I'm sorry that this wehrpass wasn't original, as it would've been a great addition to Jim's collection, but I'm glad that he's going to get a refund. This has been a very interesting thread, and very informative for both novice & advanced document collectors. This fake wehrpass was very "scary" & I'm sure that it fooled many document collectors before it was "found" to be a fake on the WAF. My hats off to all the forum members that aided Jim in his quest to authenticate this book, as you did a great job!!!

I'm rather sure he'll remove that as well, if he hasn't already done so.

I have contacted Peter a few times about bogus IDs he had listed on his site and they were removed almost immediately. Can't say the same was the case with a few other dealers, though

Did you happen to take notice of the dates of the posts in this thread? Peter just recently purchased this Wehrpass thinking it was original, and promptly removed it from his site when he was notified that it was in fact a forgery. How can he be held responsible for it making the rounds before he purchased it?

Do you know if Peter is going to mark it up as a copy?

If Peter bought it as original, then the original source on this thread must be a bit iffy since he refunded the buyer but has since moved it on to Peter or other less well informed middle men?
