    Fake or Real?

    Heh, look at this!

A film repro stalag tag used in "Hart's War (top) and an authetic one for comparision.
I'm surprised with the quality. Nice addition to my collection and who knows maybe Bruce Willis or Collin Farrel has worn it

      Fake or real?

Hello Al, this is a very interesting thread, as it shows collectors that not all movie props are fake-looking pieces of junk. The company that made this prop really put some time into research, as the comparison to your original dog tag is scary. I can only imagine the number of movie props that have been sold as originals on such places as ebay, etc. Thanks for posting the pic of this "real" & fake dog tag.

      Best regards,

      Tom

Yes. It's quite interesting to see that film producers are making their best to be as close to real stuff as possible.
I have a friend who was aconsultant only when it comes to topic of US ID tag in Pacific, Company of Brothers, Pvt Ryan and perhaps a dosen of other movies!
Surely there are some mistakes as with the tag I have shown - the form of the blank isn't perfect. Also when it comes to Stalag 318 and the number itself - it's hardly possible if it could belonged to US POW as this camp held no US POWS and this number would rather belong to a Soviet POW.
But in general someone did some good job. Of course as long as these tags aren't sold as genuine ones.
Actually I never seen a good film repro of a German ID tag except some KM ones in Das Boot. Usually Bundeswehr tags are used which screws all "dog tag scenes" up.
