    Guys,

I was trying to make a fellow collector feel not so bad about his purchase.

My opinion which is reassuring to know that I am allowed is that where we are in Europe Rob there's not much in it in terms of price. You may have to pay an arm and a leg and I understand that to you personally you may want to lash out a bit more cash.

It is if intended to decive a half arsed job for all the reasons outlined so just as an aside I suggested that it may have been the old boy himself since there is no stamp.

I am honest, maybe naive at time but I will stand my ground and as a moderator Eric no need to be rude just because you have it all rapped up in your opinion. Still I've learned a new word.

Each book is unique I wasn't discussing a ball point entry or Militaria 321. Just this book, a still nice piece of history and less of it around.

I have not been rude yet and I won't be as this is such a good source of free info.

So I will 'know my place' and try not suggest anything outrageous again.

Swayne its still not the end of the world, not quite the Hitler diaries!

Happy hunting, maybe see you in Germany Eric? There are I am told a few Dutchmen hunting around Hannover?

      Eric,

Calling people who have not done anything wrong a joker is rude if you are in a position of authority as a moderator or are you just untouchable?

I have not been offensive, I have not undermined your positionas a moderator.

You have all in the click stated your position clearly surely that is enough in this democracy?

My question stands though, that no one has quantified yet, how much is to be gained versus lost with such a half arsed job on a nice book, which was my point about it being a possible inclusion by the owner rather than an attempt to decive.

I have not time for fraudsters either.

Are you per chance also a wheeler dealer?

      Regards

      Jock

            Cool,

Then I would assume it is better to be polite rather than rude or is his status exempt manners.

            I know my place now!

Please re-read my reply in post #43:
"It would take all of 30 seconds to add that entry, and considering a combat award entry will help sell an ID much quicker, and for more money - no matter how much or how little the amount may be - there's no reason for a dishonest person to do so. 10 EURO, 50 EURO, 1500 EURO; the amount is irrelevant. The simple fact of the matter is that it takes very little effort to fake an entry that will sell something quicker, and for more money."

The "amount" you're questioning is irrelevant. If there is the potential to make even a few EURO more by simply adding an award entry, what's to stop someone from doing so? Some people - especially those willing to ruin a good piece by messing with it - don't care about the history behind the item, never mind the item itself. Furthermore, to some people 10, 30 or 50 EURO is a lot of money. If a fake entry can fool a collector into paying even a few EURO more than what an ID would sell for without the entry, what's to stop a dishonest person from adding it?

There are literally dozens upon dozens of bad fakes for every halfway decent fake out there. I don't understand why people get hung up on "if it's fake, why do such a poor job?" The answer is simple; because ultimately there's a very good chance it will fool somebody.

Judging from what people continue to spend on tampered with/fake IDs they buy from dealers and especially at online auction sites there's very little risk involved for a dishonest person to add a bogus entry - or create a flat out forgery. While experienced collectors will know better and avoid them, the fact is there are many inexperienced and unsuspecting collectors out there buying tampered with or flat-out bad IDs.

Just because a piece is "outed" as being tampered with/fake does not mean that it won't resurface somewhere down the road and fool someone. There have been cases where a ID was bought, shared on an online discussion forum and deemed as having been tampered with/fake, returned to the person it was bought from....... and then a few weeks/months later the exact same piece turned up somewhere else and was bought for more than it was previously sold for.

A simple search here will show you that there have been multiple discussions dealing with bad IDs listed in auctions while the auctions were still live and yet the items still sold, and in some cases for a lot of money.

Not everyone is on WAF (or other online military collectible discussion forums) to see these items being discussed.

The fact that these tampered with/fake IDs keep selling is more than enough reason for these douche bags to continue doing what they do.

                Jock,

I have stepped back for a moment and realized using Jokker was not the best which has now de-railed the thread.
I am not a dealer, but a researcher and I am not using my MOD status to advance anything on the WAF.
So lets get back to collecting, thanks.

                yours friendly

I guess I don't see why there is a continuing issue. It was found that the entry is fake or at the least suspect.

It may or may not be the case that the owner entered the badge himself, and many did. It doesn't change the fact that this entry has been found to be post war, no matter what anyone says. It's still a nice booklet, and Swayne should feel good about having it as it is a nice booklet and I'm sure most of us have had an entry that is suspect, or did at one time.

And, In fact this post is about a completely different booklet than the one in which you all are discussing.

I would just like to say that regardless of the fake or suspect entry, I still like the book. It has two 31a entries and an EKII award. He definitely saw some time on the front.

                      Thanks Rose,
                      Swayne
