    SS-VT dog tag

    Hi,

I´m pretty sure it is a fake, but the seller is trustable, and he says, the EKM comes from a old family together with other stuff, which is good.

Most of VT Erkennungsmarke, I saw till today was stamped "SS V.T.", but I also saw some with the full text on the backside.

Regiment "D.F." would meet SS-VT and the region, it was found (Austria).

    Any meenings?

Maybe I will sound controversial in this honourable forum, but I would not totally reject this tag as a fake. If it's a fake it is rather an old one.
There is some nice patina on the tag - and some nice white oxidation here and there. I don't say it's authentic but can't just put my finger down basing on these pictures. There were lots of self made replacement tags in use also in W-SS.
One of things that convince me is that wartime fonts are used and 7 is self made as it was missing it in a stamping set. I don't really believe that someone making fakes would bother himself doing it , guess he would rather use one of the figures available instead.
Anyway can't say much without inspecting it personally.
          Regards
          Al

that was, what I thought too, when I saw it the first time.

It is so horrible done, no faker, who wants to earn money with that item, would do such a BAD work. It looks horrible, and this makes it "nice"

"It looks so bad that it have to be original". Sorry, I don't feel good with this argument.

everything, what looks bad, is original. That is not, what i meant.
I trust the seller, got some nice, original items from him, and he says, this tag comes from his own family. And the story around it, fits the region. I know, sure not textbook, but maybe ...

                        Hello

                        I will do !

                        1.)
Look at the SS runes at the backside !

                        2.)
All original SS DF dogtags found by myself and all original dogtags I knew from friends are with coy number.
I never saw a soldbuch entry (dogtag inscription) from SS DF without number.

                        Best regards, Fronti

                          Ss-vt dog tag

There is a SS DF dog tag in Hoidal's erkennungsmarken dog tag book, page #78, and it has no coy number. Is the tag shown in the book bad, due to the lack of a coy number? IMO, some of the dog tags shown in reference books are suspect, so I'd appreciate any comments about the dog tag in Hoidal's book. Thank you!

                          Best regards,

                          Tom

                              Ss-vt dog tag

Here is a scan of the DF dog tag shown in Hoidal's reference book. I checked an old xerox copy of a DF wehrpass that I owned years ago, and the erkennungsmarke entry reads: SS "DF" 4882. The runic symbols are used in the dog tag entry in this wehrpass. I would appreciate any comments about the dog tag shown in Hoidal's book, as it would be a very interesting to know if it's a original tag or not. Thank you!

                              Best regards,

                              Tom
