    LW soldbuch prisoner Apr.1945

This one also purchased yesterday. No big entries but a nice late war piece.
Written in pencil are the words "Gefangenschaft ab 12. April 1945".
He was also in the Reserve Lazerett Regensburg, that must indicate he was fighting on the west front? Didn't translate everything yet, hope something interesting will come out.

One thing that was interesting so far is a small "Ausbildungnachweis" was located in the soldbuch, mentioning several units he was in from the period 1939 to the end of 1944.
Don't know what the paper exactly mean, perhaps someone can help me with that.

    Regards,

Brief information about the lei. Flak Abteilung 997

    http://www.ww2.dk/ground/flak/abt/le997.html

It does seem he was fighting in the west, but areas is Bavaria, like Regensburg, Bayreuth, MArkredwitz, ect is where convalescing soldiers from the Ostfront would be taken. The location and the hospital you were sent to depended many times on the type of injury. Are there any wounds listed in the book?

      Hi Erich!

Thank you for the abt.997 link, very interesting (for me) this unit was in the Eifel for a while and near Bitburg.
What also is interesting is that this unit was there in December 1944, this perhaps could mean it took Part in the Ardennes? From Bitburg several divisions attacked towards the Luxembourg border on Dec. 16 1944. But maby this a long shot..
From Feb. 45 the unit was at Linz am Rhein, which lays behind the eifel. And I looked it up exactly and Linz is a small kilometre or so from Remagen. Also not entirely uninteresting.

About the injury,... it is mentioned he was in Regensburg on 12. March 1945, in in the table "Krankheit" only a number -6- is mentioned. Does that say anything to you?

      Thank you allready so far.

Oh...Nr 6. Scharlach (scarlet fever), Diphtherie. Not good. Perhaps the hospital in Regensburg specialized in the treatment of that disease.

          Thank you again Erich,

Reading its soldbuch he was in the lei. Flak 828(v) before joining the 997(v).
That means he was in the region of Flensburg (way up north located near Denmark), and somewhere late 1944, most likely December 28th he transferred to the lei. Flak 997(v) in the region of Bitburg, and from there towards Linz/Remagen.
And then unfortunally it stops with him laying in Regenburg hospital.
Well I'm very satisfied with the information so far. Glad I bought it.

Interesting double writing of the american POW registration (31 G.......) with french POW registration ("PG", for "prisonnier de guerre"), in first page. No doubt, he was at west !
